Who We Are
College of Nursing, East Coast Institute Of Medical Sciences (EIMS) was established in the year 2010. It aims not only at fulfilling academic excellence but concentrates in all arenas to nurture the whole person.
With the latest technology, the explosive growth of technology will continue to have an impact on health care delivery. This will change the way nurses function, and lead to the development of new nursing roles.
Our Mission
Professional development and research. A nurse is not merely a caregiver — she is a tech-savvy, confident and highly resourceful person who can handle state-of-the-art hospital equipment.
Endowed with the unique qualities of love, audacity and compassion — the hallmark of a true nurse — EIMS aims to build a healthcare provider of global repute at Moolakulam.

EIMS is headed by our enterprising Chairman Dr. N. Murugesan and Dynamic Director Dr. Sathyaveni Murugesan.
EIMS was created to uphold medical and paramedical education, establish educational institutions, develop research facilities, and run health clinics and hospitals of the highest standard.
Our Objectives
- To prepare students to assume responsibilities as professionals and competent nurses by imbibing sound knowledge and professional skills.
- To prepare students as members of the nursing profession to uphold its dignity and provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.

Our Philosophy
"College of Nursing strives to update Nursing Education on par with International Standards. The purpose of the College is not merely to produce graduates in the field of Nursing, but also to mould the young minds towards selfless service. The faculty believes in training professional nurses who will make a unique contribution in the promotion of health, prevention of illness, restoration of health and rehabilitation of an individual, family and community as a whole."
Governing Council
The Governing Council serves as the highest administrative body of the institute. It convenes once a year to oversee the design, development, and strategic execution of policies across academic, financial, and co-curricular domains to ensure the continuous development and smooth functioning of the institution.
Functions of the Governing Council
The responsibilities of the council can be broadly categorized into key areas of institutional governance:
1. Academic & Curriculum
- Resource Provision: Ensures perfect implementation of the curriculum by providing adequate infrastructure and competent human resources.
- Academic Performance: Monitors and reviews the overall academic performance of the student body.
- Course Management: Evaluates the introduction of new courses and reviews proposals for changes in student intake.
2. Regulatory Compliance
- Statutory Reviews: Reviews critical communications, policy decisions, and notices from apex bodies, including:
- The Indian Nursing Council (INC)
- The Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council (TNNMC)
- The Pondicherry University
- Institutional Alliances: Evaluates the institution's Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), tie-up hospitals, and official affiliations.
3. Financial & HR Management
- Fiscal Oversight: Approves and passes the college's annual budget while auditing and reviewing past statements of accounts.
- Faculty Development: Monitors faculty positions and assesses the effectiveness of faculty development initiatives and programs.
4. Student Admissions & Welfare
- Enrollment: Reviews annual student admissions.
- Holistic Development: Assesses co-curricular and development activities of the students.
Additional Responsibilities
- To review the academic performance of the students.
- To review student development activities.
- To review training and placement activities.
- To approve and oversee the conduct of national and international day celebrations, awareness programs, and related activities organized by the institution.
- To review and encourage extension activities, community outreach programs, and social service initiatives conducted by the institution for the benefit of society and student development.
- To promote and review outreach mental health activities, including awareness programs, counseling services, community mental health camps, and initiatives aimed at improving mental well-being among students and the community.
- To promote and review student mental health activities, including counseling services, stress management programs, wellness initiatives, and awareness activities aimed at supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of students.
- To review the functioning and effectiveness of the Anti-Ragging Committee, Sexual Harassment Committee, Grievance Redressal Committee, Caste-Based Discrimination Prevention Committee, and other statutory and institutional committees to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment within the institution.
MOU & Clinical Tieups
- To review the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), tie-up hospitals, and affiliations with statutory bodies.
Faculty Development
- To encourage and review research activities and publications undertaken by faculty and students to promote academic excellence and the advancement of nursing knowledge.
- To review the faculty positions in the college, including faculty development initiatives and programs.
- To encourage and review faculty development programs, including workshops, seminars, conferences, training sessions, and continuing education initiatives to enhance the professional competency and academic excellence of the faculty members.
Placement Activities
- Evaluates student training sessions and final placement activities.
- To review and strengthen training and placement activities, including career guidance programs, campus recruitment drives, internship opportunities, and collaborations with healthcare institutions for student placement.
